Issues
U.S.
Withdrawal from Iraq:
For the 2006 election, I and several Berwyn Township residents were
able to get an advisory referendum placed on the ballot calling for the
U.S. to immediately begin withdrawing from Iraq, starting with National
Guard troops. It passed by a 70% margin. I intend to bring that message
to the Congress: the United States should begin immediate withdrawal
and not stop until the last troop is out.
Universal Health Care:
America’s health care system is a national disgrace, and must be
drastically changed. We must transition to a single-payer system and
removed private insurance companies from the equation. This is no small
task, but the first step is to change the current national paradigm
that corporations should be using the public’s health as a profit
generator. They shouldn’t.
Implementing an Aggressive
Alternative Energy Policy:
The U.S. Congress should immediately repeal all tax incentives aimed at
fossil fuel exploration and expanding refinery capacity—the same
giveaways of the most recent omnibus energy bill that Lipinski brags
about signing. Instead, these incentives should be used to develop and
implement alternative energy. |
Public
Transportation Grants:
The federal government should be spending more money on improving the
nation’s mass transit systems than it does on building new roads. I
would push for a reprioritization of this nation’s transportation
budget.
Restore the Bill of Rights:
With George W. Bush in the rearview mirror in 2009, the U.S. Congress
should immediately begin the work of cleaning up the damage done to the
Bill of Rights, including the restoration of habeas corpus,
cancellation of the NSA wiretapping program, and the defunding of the
president’s Office of Faith Based Initiatives.
Transparency in Government:
Every citizen in the 3rd District should know exactly what his or her
representative is working on. As congressman, I would post online my
full schedule, showing who I have met with (or plan to meet with) and
the subjects discussed.
